Start with Additive Training

Step 1

Online Foundational AM Learning with SME-Tooling U
Additive Manufacturing (AM) Foundational courses provide learners with the essential concepts and principles needed to design and produce additive and 3D-printed prototypes, work-in-progress (WIP) tools, and finished parts. The courses, selected from SME-Tooling U, are tailored for beginners and focus on the specific skills and competencies needed to support CCAT’s hands-on training, with an emphasis on AM concepts most critical to the defense industrial supply base. Upon completing this set of online courses, participants will be prepared for in-person, hands-on software and hardware training at our facility in East Hartford, Connecticut. Each module takes 45-60 minutes to complete and must be finished by the first Monday of the month for preceding your 2-Day In-Person Essential Training.
An online learning platform will be available to participants upon registration for the foundational courses. Six modules will be assigned, and these should be completed before attending the in-person courses.

Total Modules: 6
Cost: $100
Estimated Time: 45-60 minutes per module

Step 2
In-Person Essentials AM Learning

Essentials courses provide learners with a comprehensive overview of Additive Workflows, covering key steps in the process:
1. Defining the problem and concept
2. Investigating and identifying additive design considerations and constraints
3. Applying design for additive manufacturing (DfAM) methods and technologies
4. Performing generative design
5. Conducting topology optimization
6. Utilizing integrated computer simulation to optimize part functionality and performance
7. Planning the build
8. Manufacturing the part(s)
9. Post-processing the part
10. Finishing the part
11. Inspecting the part
12. Certifying the part

Participants will learn advanced technologies for additive part design, DfAM, and topology optimization. In addition, they will explore key AM business cases and learn to evaluate the costs and benefits of additive technology adoption, helping them understand the value proposition for their organization.

Each module is 3 hours long, for a total of 12 hours. The two-day training will be held on the Wednesday and Thursday of the first week of each month at CCAT's Additive Manufacturing Lab (222 Pitkin Street, East Hartford, Connecticut). Upon completing these in-person essentials courses, participants will be ready for hands-on additive workflows training for various additive technologies at CCAT’s facilities.

Total Modules: 4
Cost: $200
Dates: Wednesday and Thursday of the first week of each month
Duration: Two Days (12 Hours)

Step 3

In-Person AM Technology Courses
AM Technology courses offer an in-depth exploration of Additive Workflows for specific technologies. These courses cover essential steps, including:
1. Defining the problem and concept
2. Investigating and identifying additive design considerations and constraints
3. Applying design for additive manufacturing (DfAM) methods and technologies
4. Performing generative design
5. Conducting topology optimization
6. Utilizing integrated computer simulation to optimize part functionality and performance
7. Planning the build
8. Manufacturing the part(s)
9. Post-processing the part
10. Finishing the part
11. Inspecting the part
12. Certifying the part
Each AM Technology course is a 1-day, 6-hour session, held on Wednesdays on-site at CCAT's Additive Manufacturing Lab (222 Pitkin Street, East Hartford, Connecticut). Technology courses will be offered on Wednesdays, rotating each week, starting with extrusion (second week), resin (third week) and powder bed tech (fourth week). Please note some schedules may vary.

Cost: $100 for one day course
Duration: six hours each
